CONCEPT ART PREVIEW: Nexus Brawler

The concept art for the latest piece from Icarus Miniatures, the brutal Nexus Brawler

Welcome Icarus fans! It's time for another concept art reveal. Today we're going to be taking a look at the Nexus Brawler.

Nexus culture is steeped in conflict. From their earliest days, the Nexus have been famed for their ability to make war. Before their first contact with the Praesidians, war was life for the Nexus. The various tribes would be battling their neighbors relentlessly, fighting over land, resources, or simply just to fight.

During times of “peace”, the Nexus sate their need for violence in vast arenas. Entrants fight one another to the death for the entertainment of their kin.

These arena fighters tend to be Nexus who are eager to earn glory in battle, or who desire the wealth that arena combat can bring.

Combatants that survive several combats are often drafted into the Nexus army as Brawlers, close combat specialists. Formed into small squads and given the most fearsome combat weaponry, Brawlers seek the strongest opponents to duel, unable to shake their gladiatorial roots.

Every Nexus is better than most species in close combat, but Brawlers make a sport of it

The Finished Piece

Another piece by our talented artist, Daniel Comerci, this concept has really captured the strength and savagry of the Nexus Brawlers.

The brawler is more armoured than a regular grunt, needing the additional protection for melee. Note the high collar on the armour, this is to help deflect fatal blows away from the neck.

In the game, Brawlers are close combat machines. With 4 attacks and an axe, they can deal out damage in the double digits in a single turn. More than enough to slay most foes in single combat.

They're also tougher than a standard grunt. Their defence of 5 ensures that they survive long enough to get into combat with the enemy. Be careful though, as enemy snipers will be aiming to take them out before they make it across the board. Keep your brawlers to cover as they advance to give them the best chance to do some damage.

A good tactic to use is a brawler or two, supported by a group of Feral Nexus. The Meatshield rule on the Feral Nexus means the Brawlers can use them to stay alive longer, and if any Feral Nexus survive to reach the enemy, they can deal a fair amount of close combat damage themselves.

We hope you've enjoyed this latest piece of concept art. we'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
